Ship modelling: a passion which goes over simply playing

My name is Ivano Bettini and I have “commissioned” this “job” because I want to involve as more people as I can with my passion.

Through these pictures I hope to be able to prove my love for the sea. This web-site shows and (if possible) offers to fans or interested people old models of ships which are hand made and as closer as possible to the originals.

Thanks to my “riminese” origins I have charted the typical ships of the Adriatic coast, which are divided into two groups: those used for fishing and those used for cabotage.

A little bit of history...

Both Trabaccoli and Pielèghi were considered as the traditional transport ships of the Adriatic coast. The history of these two ships is linked together: they have the same origins but they developed in different ways. The Lugger withstands the use of motorised ships and is used even in nowadays, the pièlego, is a good sailing ship and disappeared at the beginning of the century. » Read All (italians only)

IL GIORNO DEL VARO DEL TRABACCOLO "AMARCORD"

I am 53 years old and I have worked in the marine sector for 20 years. My career started as a young ship boy on small merchant ships..

In the 70th I started to sail sailing ships and motorised sailing ships, which are no more used today. But there still exist a generation of old sea dogs that had sailed and suffered upon these ships. Their stories on board captured me, especially those who were telling those stories with enthusiasm and nostalgia for the lived experiences. Maybe this was the moment I have started to feel love for the typical ships of the Adriatic coast and the wish to preserve their memory thought modelling. If compared to other modelling, my “child” is not a beautiful “death nature”. The fusion of the modern technology and the tradition creates those perfect functioning object, guided by a full-experienced captain, giving them voice – power – and movement. In other words I did not want that this jewel survives only over memory.
